On December 18 at 12:00 and 15:30 in the conference hall of the Central Exhibition Hall "Nevskaya Volna" (8 John Reed Street, lit. A, building 2) will host a private screening of the documentary "The Duel We Missed" (USA). Viewing is organized especially for athletes and coaches participating in the Vladimir Salnikov Cup.

"The Duel We Missed" is a documentary about the dramatic events of the Olympic Games of the 1970s and 1980s.

The film is based on the story of the confrontation between the great Soviet swimmer, four-time Olympic champion Vladimir Salnikov and two-time Olympic champion, American Brian Goodell. The film also reveals the stories of multiple Olympic champions John Niber and Rhodey Gaines. The stories of athletes are replete with personal difficulties encountered on the way to victory, how geopolitical processes on both sides of the ocean created insurmountable obstacles to the realization of the Olympic dream, and how hard work, perseverance and self-belief helped athletes climb Olympus. Despite all the difficulties in the world, the characters of the film remained respectful and friendly to each other both in the pool and outside. One of the main narrators in the film was the coach of eight US Olympic teams, Mark Schubert, who raised 29 Olympic champions.

The official premiere of the film took place at the Olympic Games in Paris as part of the film festival organized by the World Association of Olympians. The film received 2 nominations: best feature-length documentary and special jury prize.
