On 16 December, at 13:00, the Physical Education and Sport Committee (22 Ulitsa Millionnaya) will hold a press conference dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the Vladimir Salnikov Cup. The press conference will be attended by President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation and four-time Olympic swimming champion Vladimir Salnikov, Chair of the Physical Education and Sport Committee Yury Avdeyev, Chief Judge of the Vladimir Salnikov Cup Competitions Alexander Mironov, and Director of the Vladimir Salnikov Cup Competitions Yulia Martina.
Over the course of two days: on 17 and 18 December, the strongest swimmers in the world will compete at the St. Petersburg Swimming Centre located at 10 Ulitsa Khlopina. More than 30 athletes from around the world and more than 300 Russian swimmers, 73 of them from St. Petersburg, will battle for the tournament Cup: a silver shark created by well-known St. Petersburg sculptor Alexei Arkhipov. The races will be held in the main pool of the Swimming Centre.
Today, the events calendar of the LEN (Ligue Européenne de Natation – the European Swimming League) lists the Cup among top level international tournaments. The Russian Salnikov Cup team will include top representatives from the swimming world: six-time world record holder and Captain of the Russian national swimming team Evgeny Korotyshkin; world champion (2011), three-time second place world championship finalist (2009, 2011), three-time European champion, and multiple Russian champion Anastasia Zueva, who has recently set a Russian record (50m backstroke in 26.23 seconds); winner of the 100m freestyle race at the 2011 European Swimming Championship Sergei Fesikov; silver medallist at the Beijing Olympic Games Evgeny Lagunov; multiple European and world champion Yulia Yefimova. International guests of the tournament include: winner of world championships, champion of the Pan American Games, and winner of the 2007 Salnikov Cup Randall Bal from the USA; world champion Cameron van der Burg from South Africa; Paul Biedermann from Germany; two-time Olympic champion, two-time world champion, and multiple European champion Britta Seffen from Germany; and silver medallist at the Beijing Olympic Games, world champion, and two-time European champion Alexander Dale Oen from Norway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Games

The official opening ceremony will take place on 17 December, at 17:00. The Awards Ceremony will take place on 18 December, at 19:45, at the main pool. Morning races from 10:00 to 12:00. Finals from 17:00 to 19:00. Free admission.
A flash zone where fans can meet their favourite athletes during the event will be set up in the main pool of the Swimming Centre. Journalist accreditation will take place at the press conference.
